HTC’s latest flagship phone (their first to feature a dual core processor), the HTC Sensation, offers the very best that HTC has to offer and has now been released in the UK. However, until now the HTC Sensation was a network exclusive mobile phone tied to the UK mobile network Vodafone. The good news for consumers in the UK is that now this exclusive deal is coming to an end with other networks and independent retailers expected to start receiving the new Sensation very soon.
Vodafone have announced they will only provide the HTC Sensation free to customers signing up to a 24 month contract deal. Though as the phone becomes widely available we can expect to see the contract length reduce. Those pre-ordering the new HTC Sensation can expect to receive their handsets by end of July in the UK. Despite the fact that when the Sensation was announced the phone was going to be the first featuring dual core processor technology, it has already been beaten to the punch by three new phones already sporting this technology, the LG Optimus 2X, Motorola Atrix and the Samsung Galaxy S2.
The Samsung Galaxy S2 is likely to be the phone to beat, offering the toughest competition to the HTC Sensation, featuring a 1.2GHz dual core processor and a similar sized touch screen but with the added bonus of Samsung’s Super AMOLED Plus. The Samsung Galaxy S2 is also thinner and lighter than the HTC Sensation, but both phones offer the same camera technology and HD video recording.
At a glance, the Sensation initially looks similar to the HTC Desire S, but on closer examination you can see the subtle three shades of grey and the fact that the screen is slightly sunk into the bezel, protecting the display and making the touchscreen easier to use. Despite the fact that the Sensation’s display is exactly the same size as the HTC Desire HD (4.3 inches), due to the Sensation’s rounded corners and narrower bezel, this handset actually feels much smaller in the hand than the Desire HD.
When it comes down to choosing between the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the HTC Sensation, as if often the case with modern mobile phones, it will likely boil down to personal preference based on the looks and of course the price or contract deals on offer at the time.
The HTC Sensation will be available on Orange, T-Mobile, O2 and 3 Mobile from June 20th 2011 and with its solid aluminium case, amazingly powerful processor, huge bright screen, comprehensive selection of widgets and the latest, customisable software, is likely to be another big hit for HTC despite some strong opposition from Samsung, LG and Motorola.
