The Sony Ericsson W395 Mobile Review

Category : Sony Ericsson

The W395 is another great release from Sony Ericsson in their Walkman range, the handset has a less bulky appearance and really comfortable feel in your hand. The main thing with a Sony Ericsson is the music and with its Walkman 2.0 music player and an equaliser with deep bass function (this allows you to play your songs through the built in stereo speakers with excellent sound quality). The Walkman player also has Sony’s Track ID function as well as the PlayNow feature for downloading songs, themes, ringtones, wallpapers or games directly to your handset. The camera is 2 Megapixel with a 2.5x digital zoom. Other features include a Stereo FM radio with RDS, EDGE and a Memory Stick Micro (M2) card slot that will accept cards up to 4GB. Also with a scratch resistant surface. WAP 2.0/xHTML, HTML (Openwave) and Rss reader.

This handset comes loaded with loads of great features and applications. Messaging wise the handset has SMS, EMS, MMS, Email and Instant Messaging. The phone is compact and shaped really well. Weighing 96g and  96 x 47 x 14.9 mm. Standby Time is up to 480hrs Talk Time up to 8hrs. The 2.0 inch display shows off your photos in great quality and is extremely sharp. The W395 is a very affordable music phone that has purpose made keys for music.  The handset supports GSM / GPRS / EDGE 850/900/1800/1900

Powerful built-in stereo speakers with full bass Stereo headset with your phone a music player and you are your own DJ A real music machine with the Walkman music player, TrackID and PlayNow TrackID quickly find your favourite songs With PlayNow arena you a full range of mobile entertainment download The sharp 2.0-inch display show your photos in their full glory Support for motion gaming.

The Sony Ericsson W395 is available in Pink, Silver and Black. This is a slider handset and is finished really well, I feel it lives up to the Walkman name very well and is another great product from Sony Ericsson. The handset is available from T Mobile, Orange, Vodafone nd O2 either as pay as you go or monthly contract. As this handset is so nicely priced I personally would opt for the pay as you go option which saves you being tied to a lengthy contract. The phone itself would suit everyone – from the people who love music to the ones who just like to keep up with the latest trend. More suited to personal users than business users but still a great phone to have in your pocket.

Mobile Review Of The Sony Ericsson W595

Category : Sony Ericsson

The new Sony Ericsson W595 Ed Hardy edition mobile phone is an excellent display of style, colour and complete madness! With a trademark Ed Hardy tattoo design, themes and even the famous “Love and Death before Dishonour” motto on the back of the handset.  This phone not only has incredible design but it also has many great featuring a Walkman Music player and dedicated music keys and crystal clear stereo speaker. You have the choice to listen to your own MP3 tracks, or tune into radio stations with the built-in FM radio. The handset features TrackID music recognition, Shake control and the SenseMe application.

The 3.2-megapixel camera with zoom, auto-focus and video capture will give you great picture quality. The Walk-Mate application is an easy-to-use step counter, which will track the entire steps you walked throughout the day. This is all topped off with 3G HSDPA technology for high-speed web browsing and even built-in games. It is a bit on the chunky and has a rather small 2.2 inch screen. When you switch on the W595 you’ll be delighted by a bright and vibrant QVGA display with brilliant layout and icons that are easily readable.  There is great features and applications on this handset though, quad-band GSM, 3.6Mbps HSDPA with an integrated YouTube application and an average mobile browser. Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP. The 950mAh battery is great news and an impressive 9 hours of talk time and 385 hours on standby.

Other highlights include voice dialling, a rather loud speakerphone and some premium games including Pacman and Worms 2007 – most of these games are only demo versions.
All in all this is a very stylish and unusual handset, from the Ed Hardy Tattooed design to the excellent Walkman facilities. This phone is sure to turn a few heads, you will either love it or hate it. The Sony Ericsson W595 Ed Hardy Edition is available from Orange, Virgin, O2, Vodafone, 3 and T Mobile. Pay as you go, sim free or monthly contract, there really is a lot of choices for your ideal package when considering the handset. To buy the handset outright it is priced reasonably well and won’t leave you cringing at your next bank statement.

Sony Ericsson W995 Review

Category : Sony Ericsson

The Sony Ericsson W995 is another handset from the Walkman range. The phone features an 8.1 megapixel camera, an improved media syncing system, HSDPA 3G, Wi-Fi and A-GPS all packed into a chunky yet slim slider phone. It measures in at 97x49x15mm and 113g.  The W995′s LCD screen is good with 240×320-pixel and 262,000 colours.  The only downside is that it’s only 2.6in – which doesn’t reflect well with the media player. The 8.1 megapixel camera has the standard LED, an image stabiliser and auto focus, as well as smile detection and the excellent BestPic, which takes seven pictures in one quick blast, both before and after you press the shutter. There’s also a 16x digital zoom, macro setting and panorama.

Music is obviously the key thing for the W995 with excellent sound quality augmented by Clear Stereo and Clear Bass features, as well as a five-band graphic equaliser and FM radio with RDS. The W995 comes with its own set of external stereo speakers. The Sony Ericsson W995 plays MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC and WMA audio formats and MPEG-4 and WMV formats for video. Playback quality was good, but not all formats can be shown full screen.

The Access Netfront browser gives great web browsing. The handsets accelerometer will change the screen to landscape mode when your turn it on its side and you can zoom in or out in ten% increments. There is also copy and paste options available, search web pages for key words, save pictures and view pages as text only. The phone has great connectivity options, including quad-band GSM, GPRS, HSDPA 3G fast internet connection (up to 7.2Mbps), Wi-Fi (802.11b/g) and Bluetooth 2.0 with stereo A2DP. It will also link up to Mac or PC for syncing or charging via USB 2.0. The onboard A-GPS is supported by Google Maps. Sony Ericsson’s NearMe application is simple to use and there is also a preloaded trial version of the Wayfinder Navigator sat nav.

The 118MB of memory isn‘t great, but it does comes with an 8GB Memory Stick Micro card. Battery life gives up to 9 hours talk time and 370 hours standby.
The handset is all about music and this is one thing is does well, the sound quality is great and browsing through your favourite tracks and albums is a breeze.

Sony Ericsson W715 Silver Mobile Phone Review

Category : Mobile Phones, Sony Ericsson

The latest model in the excellent Sony Walkman mobile phone series is the funky Sony Ericsson W715 Silver (an upgraded version of the Sony W705). As part of the walkman range, the phone is dedicated towards music and in fact looks more like an mp3 player than a mobile handset. The phone also features a 2.4” QVGA display screen with 256K colours, a 3.2 mega pixels camera and a FM radio with RDS. A quad-band GSM phone with 3G support, the Sony Ericsson W715 Silver offers international coverage with roaming facility.

As you would expect, being a walkman phone the Sony Ericsson W715 Silver has all of the brilliant walkman music features such as Shake control – allowing the changing of tacks with a mere flick of the wrist and SensMe – a feature which allows creation of play lists by the “mood” of the music. With a decent 120Mb of internal storage the W715 Silver can already hold a fair amount of your favourite music tracks, however if you have a huge music collection you can extend the capacity with the 4GB Memory Stick Micro card supplied (roughly 3000 songs). The music quality is great with good thumping bass sounds. The accelerometer used for the shake control also allows automatic rotation of the screen from landscape to portrait mode depending on phone position.

With a 3.2 mega pixel camera featuring digital zoom, photo light, photo fix and the geo tagging, the Sony Ericsson W715 Silver allows the capture great quality photo’s and video footage.

The Sony Ericsson W715 Silver makes surfing the internet simple with built-in Access NetFront web browser and RSS feed reader. Fast data and file wireless transfers are possible with 3G HSDPA, EDGE and Wi-Fi technologies along with Bluetooth and USB cable options.

Pros
Google maps
Shake control

Great sounds
Walkman music player
Google Maps
4GB Memory Stick Micro card included

Cons
No 3.5mm headphone socket (however the headphone supplied are excellent)
Video capture merely adequate (QVGA resolution at 15 frames per second)
Camera photo quality is basic (no autofocus system)

For music lovers this mobile phone should be high on the short list. If you take a lot of photo’s or video’s however, you may be disappointed. Camera quality aside the Sony Ericsson W715 Silver is a great phone and comes with all the latest technologies and features such as Wi-Fi, HSPA, A-GPS, Google maps and of course the fantastic walkman music player.

Sony Ericsson G705 Mobile Phone Review

Category : Mobile Phones, Sony Ericsson

The Sony Ericsson g705 is the second feature phone in the Sony Ericsson Generation Web range (in fact it’s only the second mobile phone from Sony Ericsson to feature both WLAN and GPS capabilities). The Sony Ericsson G705 handset is almost entirely made of plastic and measures just 95 x 47 x 14.3 mm and weighs only 98 grams. This is a neat and compact phone with a simple design. A 2.4″ QVGA display dominates the front view and above it you will find an ambient light sensor, earpiece and secondary video-call camera. Under the screen there is a round D-pad with two blocks of semicircle controls symmetrically placed on either side.

Sliding the phone upwards will reveal an alphanumeric raised and backlit keyboard that is easy to use with ridges between rows and clearly defined columns. Unlike some slide phones the top row of keys on the keypad has plenty of room and is unaffected by the slider. There is no The M2 memory card slot on the outside of the Sony Ericsson g705 as this is hidden underneath the battery cover.

The Sony Ericsson g705 is fitted with the standard Sony Ericsson BST-33 950 mAh Li-Po battery which should  provide up to 10 hours of talk time and up to 400 hours of standby.

A variation of the Sony Ericsson g705 handset, the G705u, is to be offered as the first UMA enabled Sony Ericsson phone ( UMA enables users to seamlessly roam between mobile networks and Wi-Fi LAN networks) The G705u will be exclusive to the Orange network.

The Sony Ericsson G705 has a flash-based Media Center, where you will find Music Player 3.0 and the Media Center menus. The media player supports all popular formats, such as MP3, AAC, AAC+, E-AAC +, WAV, WMA, M4A and MIDI. In addition the G705 has sound features like the famous Sony MegaBass equalizer preset and a facility called stereo widening (a complex signal processing procedure to give a fuller more “alive” sound).

Sony Ericsson F305 White Mobile Phone Review

Category : Mobile Phones, Sony Ericsson

Looking remarkable like a Wii controller, the Sony Ericsson F305 White is designed to bring mobile motion sensor based gaming to the mobile market. The handset comes equipped with a motion sensing camera, a selection of games and dedicated gaming keys. With dimensions of 96 x 47 x 14.6mm, the Sony Ericsson F305 White is slightly chunkier than it’s competitors, although it weighs just 97.5 grams.

largef305white
The screen is a bit of a disappointment for a gaming orientated phone, featuring just 176 x 220 pixel resolution. The dedicated gaming controls are better, with one to access games folder and two above the screen with dedicated game controlling functions. The keypad below the slide could be better, in normal use it performs OK but when trying to rush out a fast text message the keys lack definition and it’s too easy to make mistakes.

The Sony Ericsson F305 White actually uses the 2 megapixel camera on the rear of the phone to orientate itself to calculate the phone movements (like the PlayStation’s EyeToy). there are around 60 games to choose from, some pre-installed some require downloading. Including puzzle games. shoot em up games, sports (ten pin bowling, horse racing, fishing etc) and even a Sims 2 game (although much watered down for mobile version). The Sony Ericsson F305 White ships with memory card, a wrist strap lanyard for gaming, alternative battery covers and headphones. Unfortunately there is no USB cable included in bundle which means you have to purchase separately or use the built-in Bluetooth functionality.

The built-in camera on the The Sony Ericsson F305 is pretty basic with no flash or auto-focus, however the F305 supports a decent range of music formats such as MP3, AAC, WMA and WAV and the video player supports MP4 and 3GP video files. Battery life is good with 8 hours talk/gaming time and up to 400 hours on standby.

Pros:
Long battery life
Bluetooth with A2DP
Expandable memory (M2 card)
Light weight
MP3 player

Cons:
Motion sensor isn’t as responsive as it could be
Spongy and ill defined keypad
basic camera
No 3.5mm earphone jack so limited choice of headphones
USB to PC cable not included

The Sony Ericsson F305 White is a fairly basic mid-range mobile phone with some unique gaming abilities. However it is certainly not the PSP gaming phone reported by the media. Basic phone functions are fine, it’s just that the F305 does not have a lot to offer over many competitors in the market right now. However, in a phone with the emphasis on fun and entertainment the F305 fails to deliver.

Sony Ericsson Z320i – Mobile Phone Review

Category : Mobile Phones, Sony Ericsson

The Z320i from Sony Ericsson is a stylish clamshell mobile phone packed with features available in crimson red or Atlantic blue. Weighing just 90 grams and with compact measurements of 87mm by 47mm by 20mm, the Z320i fits easily into any pocket. The two display screens ( internal and external) allow the user to view information without having to open the phone. This external screen shows new call coming in, new message and missed calls amongst other functions. The design of the Sony Ericsson Z320i is a little “retro” reminiscent of those popular Sony Ericsson models the Z250i and the Z310i. Users can change the looks and personalise their phones using Sony Ericsson’s “Style Up” covers.

The internal screen is a 65k colour screen with 128×160 pixel resolution ( the external is monochrome 96×64 pixels) which also acts as a viewfinder for the 1.3 mega-pixel VGA camera unit with video recording and playback capabilities, 4 x Digital Zoom and photo album application which can store up to 100 photographs.

Video clips can be shared using the built in MMS feature of the Z320i. With SMS (Text Messaging)
MMS (Multimedia Messaging) and  Email, video clips and photos can be shared easily. The predictive text input means sharing is quick too! Long text is supported which means text messages which are have too many characters for MMS are automatically split into multiple text messages all sent at once. A handy sound recorder is also included.

The Sony Ericsson Z320i phone comes with a WAP internet browser allowing easy access to the internet from their mobile. The Z320i can connect to other devices a USB connection or the infra red connection port. A a Tri-band network mobile, the Z320i covers GSM bands 900, 1800 & 1900, meaning you can use it abroad in Europe and even further afield in North America depending on the area and your provider.

The Z320i has 12 Mb of internal memory for storing phone book, messages, videos, sound recordings and photos. With fun embedded games and a range of MP3, AAC & polyphonic ring tones, the Sony Ericsson Z320i is ready and willing straight out of the box.

Pros
Style Up Covers
SMS Long
Predictive Text Input
Sound Recorder
Speakerphone with handsfree

Cons
No Wi-Fi
No Bluetooth
Only Tri-band
Camera only 1.3 mega-pixels

The Sony Ericsson Z320i is a really stylish clamshell (flip-open) unit that has most of the main features expected from today’s mobile users but none of the more advanced features, particularly in terms of connectivity, that are becoming commonplace in the mobile industry. If you need a phone for mostly making/receiving calls, sending/receiving texts with occasional internet and camera use, the Z320i is great. However for more technical users the lack of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi will be a huge disappointment!
