Samsung Galaxy S – review and price comparison

Category : Mobile Phones

This is the flagship smart-phone from Samsung, the Samsung Galaxy S flagship phone is designed to go head to head with Apple’s latest iPhone. Unlike that other iPhone challenger, the Samsung Wave, the Galaxy S, features the latest Android operating system rather than Samsungs own inferior system ( Bada OS).

First things first, on appearances, the Galaxy S is definitely no iPhone challenger, its certainly not an ugly phone, but not exactly a design triumph either! Its a little plasticky and doesn’t feel as substantial as the iPhone or even other competitors like the HTC Desire. Looks aside, the Samsung Galaxy S is undoubtedly well made and high quality, it just seems like Samsung could have tried harder with the design.

As soon as you switch the phone on and check out the display, any disappointments regarding appearance are immediately forgotten. The Super AMOLED technology screen is possibly the brightest, most colourful screen in any smartphone available to date. The resolution of 480×800 and the image quality on this 4 inch screen are simply amazing!

Featuring the new 1GHz Samsung Hummingbird processor, the Samsung Galaxy S is probably the fastest, smoothest Android phone yet produced. Screen transitions and internet browsing are on par with the HTC Desire and iPhone 4 (the current industry benchmarks).

Interestingly for a mobile phone designed to take on the iPhone, the Galaxy S shares on of the iPhone 4′s annoying features, that being when the handset is held in a certain way, signal strength can reduce!

Advantages: Brilliant, large AMOLED screen, powerful operating system, fast keyboard with the amazing Swype text entry option, slim, well priced for capabilities, good FM radio, plenty of pre-installed applications (, Y! Finance, AP Mobile news,Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and plenty more), tons of free of apps available from Android market, 3.5mm headphones socket, decent memory storage (8 and 16GB versions available extendible with microSD card )Google’s excellent free turn-by-turn satellite navigation included as standard.

Disadvantages: Case slightly plasticky, battery life not as good a some competitors, no LED light on camera, Samsung widgets are not great.

An excellent phone, packed with features and a gorgeous screen and the powerful Android OS. The Samsung Galaxy S should be top of the list for anyone looking to purchase a smart phone any time in the near future! Cheaper than the iPhone (around £200 per annum cheaper than the best iPhone 4 contract) and in most areas just as good. Available on o2, Orange and Vodafone
