Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 white Review and Price Comparison

Category : Mobile Phones, Sony Ericsson

The latest smartphone from Sony Ericsson, the Xperia X8 is the latest (at the time of writing) weapon against the inexorable rise of the Apple iPhone. The release of the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8 is expected to heat up competition in the mobile phone market. The Xperia series is probably Sony Ericsson’s most exciting phone range. With a history of award winning mobile phones such as
the Xperia X1 right through to the Android-based Xperia X10. Is this latest version a worthy adversary for the Apple iPhone 4? Let’s find out!

The XPERIA X8 has a 3 inch TFT capacitive touch screen with 320 x 480 pixel resolution, HVGA resolution, 16M colours and a special scratch resistant surface. A built-in acceleromer enables auto-rotation of the screen to display the content depending on how the users view the phone. A 3.15 Megapixel camera is fitted with picture resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels, Geo tagging of photographs and video recording are supported.

A compact smart-phone, comfortable to hold. The Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 white will fit neatly in any pocket with dimensions of just 99 x 54 x 15 mm. Photographs and videos can be stored using the internal 128Mb memory or the external 16Gb storage via microSD. Photographs, music and video can be transferred to other phones or devices via the range of connectivity options including SMS, MMS, Email, Instant Messenger, 2G/3G networks, Bluetooth, EDGE and microUSB port.

The retail pack includes phone, USB charger, a microUSB-to-USB cable, earphones, comprehensive user guide and a 2Gb microSD card. The casing on the Xperia 8 is a matt plastic which looks great and is immune to greasy fingerprints. However it lacks the over engineered, premium feel of some of the steel or aluminium casings offered by some competitors. There is no doubt the handset is well built and durable, it just lacks that sturdy feel.

Advantages: huge range of connectivity options including WiFi and 3G, dual SIM mobile, one of the least expensive Android smartphones on the market, screen has excellent touch sensitivity – the merest of touches is enough for a click to be registered, inset camera lense for protection against scratches,

Disadvantages: No infra-red port, No multi-touch support, microSD slot under the battery cover which makes it useless for “hot swaps” as battery needs to be removed to replace card, plastic casing lacks premium feel of some competitors, screen could be brighter in direct sunlight

The competition in the high end smartphone market is extremely tough, however the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 might just have what it takes to succeed! Exclusively on o2.
