HTC Desire HD Full Review and Comparison

Category : HTC, Mobile Phones

The HTC Desire is an excellent phone in its own right and very successful. Now HTC in Taiwan have launched a “super-sized” version – the HTC Desire HD with the same amazing 4.3 inch (800 x 480 pixel resolution ) screen as the HTC HD2 and the HTC Evo (but with improve contrast and display). So, how does the HD version of the popular Desire handset stack up against its competitors?

Well, first of all, the screen on the HTC Desire HD, while extremely good, is not quite a match for the super AMOLED screen seen on the Samsung Galaxy S (but in all honesty not many screens are!). However, their is an incredible amount of technology packed into the compact (68mm x123mm x 11.8mm) HTC Desire HD. Though not a slim as the iPhone 4 or the Galaxy S, the Desire HD certainly could not be descibed as bulky by any means!

The Desire HD features an 8MP camera with dual LED flash, HD video recording and playback, latest Android 2.2 Operating System, GPS, speaker phone, Wi-Fi, 3G and Web browser with Flash Player 10 support. In fact, in terms of high tech features, the HTC Desire HD has all the bases covered. In addition, the use of the1GHz Snapdragon processor and 768MB of memory means the Desire HD can handle all these technical features with ease, switching between apps and screens is super fast and even booting up into main menu only takes seconds.

Advantages: large and bright screen with good visibility in direct sunlight, expensive looking and feeling machined aluminium casing, Fantastic “Search Anywhere” application, Google Maps Navigation, high performance from 1GHz Snapdragon processor and 768MB of RAM, good social network integration particularly with Facebook, Fast Web browser with Flash 10 support, good user interface (HTC Sense), latest version of Android O.S. Much better than Windows 7! Straightforward integration with Google for email, contacts and calendars etc

Disadvantages: Can feel a bit “slab like” compared to some slimmer competitors, no HDMI port , battery life could be better, huge screen reveals low resolution sometimes, some people find the speakerphone somewhat “tinny”, fiddly covers for battery and microSD slot.

A potentially class winning phone. Very hard to separate the HTC Desire HD from competitors such as the Samsung Omnia 7 or even the Samsung Galaxy S. The features and abilities are so close it really just comes down to personal preferences, looks and styling. You certainly wont be missing out if you choose the HTC Desire HD!
