Full Review of Samsung Galaxy Tab P1000 mobile device

Category : Mobile Phones, Samsung

The Samsung Galaxy Tab P1000 is an advanced tablet device which can be used as an alternative to a PC/laptop in addition to servicing all your communication needs. A tri-band mobile phone and a mini tablet PC all in one! Available in black or grey, the Galaxy Tab has modern, yet classy looks, concealing a powerful 1Ghz processor with VR SGX540 graphics running on the Android operating system.

This designer handset measures just 190mm x 120mm x 12 mm compatible size and it only weighs 380g (compare that to carting a laptop around!). Games and HD videos are superb on the 7-inch 600 x1024 pixels screen and the 512Mb RAM plus up to 32Gb storage means the Samsung Galaxy Tab never feels underpowered.

The best way to look at the Samsung Galaxy Tab P1000 is to consider it a mini tablet PC with mobile phone capabilities! The Galxy tab has integrated loudspeaker and microphone so you dont even have to hold the phone like a conventional mobile, in fact you may have seen this device in use already via some very strange viral marketing advertisements from Samsung!

The Galaxy Tab P1000 is powered by the latest version of Android Operating System called Froyo and connectivity options are definitely top notch. With HSDPA at up to 7.2 mbps, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3, high speed data transfer is just that!

As with all high end mobile devices, the Galaxy Tab P1000 has a digital camera (3.15 mega pixels )with LED flash and auto focus. Camera resolution is a huge 2048 x 1536 pixels and of course video recording is supported (at 30 fps). There is also an additional front facing camera for video calling.

In terms of entertainment features, the Galaxy Tab is fully loaded with media playing capabilities for all popular music and video file types. (MP3, WAV, eAAC+, AC3, FLAC, MP4, DivX, WMV, H.264, and H.263).

Advantages: great looks, cool functions, huge range of features, super fast operating system giving slick gaming and video playback, good camera, high speed data transfer with a range of connectivity options, probably the first true rival to the Apple iPad!

Disadvantages: cannot really replace a laptop or PC just yet, but its the best effort from any manufacturer we have seen!

The Samsung P1000 Galaxy Tab is an amazing device, in theory with all the capabilities of a smartphone and the performance of a PC or laptop. However don’t throw your laptop away just yet! The Galaxy cannot quite perform all the functions of a computer. However, it is certainly the most functional and user-friendly mobile attempt from a mobile manufacturer at the moment. Available on Orange and Vodafone

Samsung S7330 Mobile Phone Review – Exclusive to three

Category : Mobile Phones, Samsung

Another stylish and classy phone design from Samsung, the S7330 Black is a slide mobile phone ( Samsung seem to be market leaders in slide design) which looks very attractive with a 2.2 inch, 240 x 320 pixels, 16 million colours display. Sunlight legibility is particularly good even on the brightest of days. A cool feature on Samsung phones is the “active standby screen” (used to be called uGo), basically the screen displays an image of a local landmark where ever you happen to be in the world – Ok not exactly useful but cool never the less! Under the clear and bright display you find a smooth touch navigation panel allowing you to move easily through the menus and features. The Samsung S7330 measures a svelte 104.8mm x 49.4mm x 14mm and weighs just 110g. With a huge seven hours of talk time and 350 hours of standby the battery performance is class leading.

A built in 3 mega-pixel camera function with advanced imaging features including flash, auto focus and face Detection means the S7330 Black offers clear and striking photography. A video recording feature is also available with playback in MPEG, WMV and H.263 modes. A smaller second camera enables video calling.

Internet surfing with the S7330 Black is straightforward with WAP 2.0 XHTML and HTML web browsing and high speed transfer rates are available with 3G HSDPA, GPRS and the EDGE technologies. Quad-band network capability also allows international roaming whilst abroad. Connecting to other devices locally is easy with the included Bluetooth (with A2DP) and USB technology services.

A full range of music and entertainment can be enjoyed on the S7330 Black handset with built-
in music player playing AAC, eAAC+, MP3 and WMA files. With an FM Radio (with RDS) if you get bored or run out of tracks. There is 35Mb of internal memory on board expandable with microSD memory card slot. With SMS, MMS, email and predictive text there is no reason to be out of touch with your friends or family.

The standard pack of Samsung applications and pre-loaded games are included, with useful utilities such as alarm, clock, calculator and calendar.

Pros
3G with HSDPA
Quad-band
Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP support
FM radio with RDS
Smart dialling feature

Cons
No Wi-Fi LAN support
No HCSCD
No Infrared port
LED flash gives poor performance in low light conditions
Expensive
When operating slide you cant help getting thumbprint smudge on the screen

The S7330 Black is yet another smart and stylish mobile phone from Samsung. A decent camera and a host of standard features make the Samsung S7330 Black a good choice but not a great one, with the lack of Wi-Fi being a particular disappointment.

Samsung U600 Mobile Phone Review

Category : Mobile Phones, Samsung

The Samsung U600 mobile is the replacement for the hugely successful Samsung D900 slide phone. As is the norm with mobile technology advancements, the U600 is thinner, lighter and more powerful than the D900! With a 3.2 megapixel camera, featuring autofocus, LED flash and digital zoom. Not top of the class but more than acceptable with good quality photographs. The video camera is also above average and the high resolution 2.22 inch, 34 x 44mm, 262,144 colours, screen means viewing is a real pleasure. In addition the screen has a sunlight feature which alters colour scheme making it readable even in direct sunlight. For such a slim phone up to 4 hours of talk time and 270 hours of standby are exceptional.

The music player is definitely worthy of mention, supporting ACC, ACC+, e-ACC+ and MP3 files and with a cracking Bang & Olufsen power amplifier allowing you to listen to quality music without using a headset. For those moments when you want to keep the sounds to yourself, the retail bundle includes a stereo or wireless Bluetooth headset. Other music features included are playlists, flight mode, background play and A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile). Internal memory as standard is quite poor when compared to similar phones on the market, only allowing around 40 tracks to be stored, so a memory upgrade will be essential for most users. A 2Gb upgrade microSD card will allow storage of around 300 songs and can be bought for under £20. The bundle also includes a PC-link cable so transferring music from your PC is easy. 64 voice polyphonic and MP3 ring tones are included which is a nice touch.

The Samsung U600 is a quad-band GSM/EDGE mobile phone that will support the 850/900/1800/1900MHz frequency bands giving worldwide reception and in terms of wireless connectivity, the Samsung U600 supports GPRS, EDGE, and Bluetooth. All the main message formats are also covered (SMS, MMS, and Email).

An unusual feature which may prove handy for some is the Samsung name card recognition. This allows you to take a photograph of a business card and the phone will recognise the details and input them into your contacts folder automatically – brilliant!

Pros
Ultra thin design
Good camera
Camera lens protected when not in use
Document Viewer supporting Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF

Cons
Slow to take photos (up to 2 seconds delay)
Low memory capacity without buying microSd card
Fiddly keys can take some getting used to
No 3.5mm headphone jack
No xenon flash
No Internet HTML Browser
No Wi-Fi

The U600 is a sleek, ultra slim and cool slider phone. With a good 3 megapixel camera and decent music player.

Samsung J700 Mobile Phone Review

Category : Mobile Phones, Samsung

The Samsung J700 is a compact slide opening phone in a cool black casing weighing just 92 grams. Easy to operate single handed with measurements of just 99.5mm by 48mm wide by 14.8mm it’s dimensions are small for a slide phone. The display can be viewed whether the handset is in the open or closed position and is a good size (2 inches) with 128 x 160 pixels resolution and up to 65k displayed colours. The keypad underneath the slide is easy to use with raised keys meaning less mistakes when texting. The rechargeable battery provides 2.5 hours talk time and up to 250 hours on standby.

A 1.3 megapixel digital camera on the J700 allows the capture of both still and moving footage. The
video function supports MPEG4 & H263 formats for both recording and playback. The camera’s lens is hidden under the slide mechanism when not in use to protect it from scratches and features 12x digital zoom and a self-portrait setting. An FM radio is included along with Java games and a music player making the J700 a useful mobile entertainment centre. 10Mb of memory is included and you can increase the storage capacity using a microSD card. As an added bonus Samsung ship the J700 with 64 Polyphonic Ringtones and some embedded JAVA games pre-loaded.

Messaging services are fully supported with text, pictures and sound files using MMS, SMS and email. The predictive text function is handy as this allows the user to input a text message much quicker than normal as the technology predicts the word the user is typing and saves them having to type complete word. A built in Web browser gives full web access using built-in WAP browser. The use of EDGE technology & GPRS allows fast speed data transfer rates.

A tri-band phone, the J700 works on the GSM 900, 1800 & 1900 networks, which gives full European coverage and partial coverage in the U.S.A and Canada. Connecting to other devices is by Bluetooth or USB cable.  A range of useful applications are included with the J700 such as a calendar, to do list, scheduler, clock, unit converter, alarm, calendar, worldtime, voice recorder, memo, calculator, stopwatch and timer.

Pros
Looks
Voice Memo
Predictive Text Input
Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP
Phonebook with 1000 entries
WAP 2.0 xHTML, HTML
Decent quality MP3/AAC/AAC+/MIDI player

Cons
Some features are basic
No Wi-Fi
No 3G
No RDS support on FM radio
Basic camera
No 3.5mm headphone jack only Samsung proprietary universal port

A lower to mid-range model from Samsung in both price and specification. Does the job though, and the camera does take some remarkably decent photos considering it’s only 1.3 megapixels. A decent if uninspiring mobile phone.

Samsung I200 Mobile Phone Review

Category : Mobile Phones, Samsung

The Samsung i200 mobile phone is taller than other smartphones ( which gives space for a decent user friendly, large number pad), but with a thickness of just 11.8mm fits into the palm of your hand nicely. The 2.3-inch screen is clear and sharp and the phone buttons are well defined for those who like texting. Unusually for a smart phone nowadays the i200 does not use touchscreen technology. Using the Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard operating system ( which is unusual for a smartphone lacking a Qwerty keyboard) this functionality is not available. However there are some who prefer good old fashioned keys and feel touch screens are a gimmick of little use. On the plus side, using Windows 6.1 means you get latest versions of Office mobile and Internet Explorer. Battery performance for such a slim phone is well above average with seven hours of talk time and up to 300 hours on standby from a single full battery charge.

Microsoft Office mobile includes Word, Excel, OneNote and PowerPoint and allows viewing, creating and editing of documents on the move. A PDF viewer is also included giving a full suite of office/business document capabilities. The retail bundle includes phone, AC charger, USB sync, stereo headset, quick start guide with CD and Outlook 2007 trial software.

Compare Samsung I200 Mobile Deals

Internet browsing is a relatively painless affair with HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) connections up to 3.6Mbps and Internet Explorer, however the Windows interface can be a little “clunky” when transitioning between web pages or applications. There is a secondary front camera for video calling in addition to the 2 megapixel main camera unit which takes acceptable but not outstanding pictures. This is not a mobile to replace your digital camera!

Unfortunately no Wi-Fi capability is built into this mobile which means you will have to rely on your network operator for getting online. This is a major blow for a modern smartphone as you cannot take advantage of smartzones or free wireless areas in hotels and airports.

You can extend the 20Mb internal memory using microSd cards up to 8GB in size to give plenty of storage. The Samsung i200 is a Tri-Band phone covering the 900/1800/1900 frequency bands. This means it can be used throughout Europe and with some networks in the USA, Canada, Caribbean and South America.

Pros
Big clear screen
Latest versions of Windows Office Mobile and Internet Explorer included
Tactile buttons are large and responsive (great for texting)
RSS reader
PDF viewer

Cons
No Wi-Fi
No GPS
No touchscreen
no FM radio tuner
No flash or autofocus on camera
Tri-band GSM only

In summary, the Samsung i200 mobile phone is a middling performer, with some solid applications included (particularly document viewing and processing), but the lack of Wi-Fi and GPS chip limit the functionality.

Samsung S3030 Tobi – Mobile Phone for Children

Category : Mobile Phones, Samsung

The Samsung S3030 Tobi is a compact and trendy phone obviously targeted at the teen or even pre-teen markets with low costs and built in safety features. The Samsung Tobi is a “candy bar” type phone available in sweet pink, oasis blue, loyal blue, bright orange, apple green, and snow silver. The Tobi has a 1.9 inch TFT screen displaying up to 65k colours with a screen resolution of 144 pixels x 176 pixels, weighs just 85g and with dimensions of 94.7mm x 45.4mm x 17.5mm is compact and easy for kids to handle. Tyhe Tobi has a transparent back cover which allows users to insert their favourite photos to personalise the phone.

The Tobi mobile phone comes with a built-in music player to provide mobile entertainment, supporting all main music file formats such as MP3, WMA and AAC. There is a 15Mb music storage feature to hold all your favourite tunes as well as Polyphonic and mp3 ring-tones and with MicroSD memory card slot this can be upgraded to 8 gigabytes. This should be more than enough space for users pictures, music and downloads.

The Tobi has a built-in 1.3 mega-pixel camera which allows users to take and manage photographs and in addition will allow them to record video footage in MPEG4 video format. The performance of these features can best be described as basic. However, bear in mind this was never designed to be a high-spec, top of the range phone, it’s a phone for kids with all the basic features they need. The Tobi has a decent selection of games pre-loaded onto the phone and more can be accessed and downloaded from the SAMSUNG Fun Club site. Internet browsing is supported with WAP 2.0 and XHTML technologies and the Tobi is tri-band so can be used throughout Europe when on holiday. Connectivity to other devices is via Bluetooth or USB. Another useful feature, especially for a younger audience, is no cost Bluetooth messaging. This allows users to mesage friends via Bluetooth to keep costs down.

Perhaps the best features – from the parents point of view – are the SOS facilities. The Tobi allows user to preconfigure SOS messages and calls. By pressing the SOS hot key a predetermined distress call is activated and by pressing the volume key 4 times quickly an SOS text message is delivered to up to 4 emergency contacts. Additionally there is a fake call feature which can be used in uncomfortable situations so children can pretend they have to go and answer a call.

Pros
fake call feature
SOS messages
SOS calls
15Mb music storage
Tranpsparent rear cover

Cons
Camera and video recorder offer very basic performance
No Wi-Fi
Only tri-band (most new phones are Quad-band)

The Samsung S3030 Tobi mobile is a cool phone with some great features for kids. Technologies are not exactly cutting edge but for young consumers offers access to internet services, music, camera and tri-band GPRS calls. Factor in low price and the excellent safety features and this becomes an appealling handset for children.

Samsung Pixon Silver Mobile Phone Review

Category : Mobile Phones, Samsung

The new Samsung M8800 Pixon Silver is all set to raise the stakes in the already competitive smartphone market. With an amazing 8 Megapixel camera, touch sensitive 3.2″ widescreen display, WVGA (Wide VGA 740 x 480 pixels) video recording, GPS receiver and Quad band reception, the Pixon could well be the new “must have” phone.

Of course, there is more to a good camera than just the sheer number of pixels, so does the Pixon deliver? Oh yes! The pictures are amazing, superb quality even when zooming in/enlarging. This is one top quality camera, in fact, this may be the best phone camera available today. The video recording capabilities are also class leading, with widescreen VGA recording (740×480 pixels) at 30 frames per second and a TV-Out cable, you can record and play at near DVD quality and enjoy on your widescreen HD TV. Almost all types of video file are supported including MP4s, WMV, H.263, H.264, DivX and XviD.

The Pixon Silver includes a GPS receiver for navigation and geo-tagging of photographs, plus an FM radio with RDS capability. The internal memory capacity of 200Mb can be extended using microSD memory card slot to 16Gb.

The Pixon is a Quad Band mobile phone, meaning you can stay in touch from all over the world. Internet browsing is fast using HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) and the user experience is great with that 3.2 inch, 16 million pixel, colour display.

A notable feature is the use of widgets to customise your home screen. These are little applets you can drag onto main screen from sidebar menu. Using these widgets you can have FM radio access, set up alarm clock, have you favourite contacts or music tracks or even the weather on the home screen in seconds. There is a wide range of widgets to suit everyone. A really neat feature.

Pros
Amazing 8 mega pixel camera
Simple to use photo software
Stunning menus and graphics to rival iPhone
Cool homescreen widgets tool
HSDPA web browsing (7.2 Mbps)
Built-in handsfree
200 MB internal memory (expandable with microSD to 16Gb)
Videocall enaabled with secondary video camera
Built-in GPS including photo geo-tagging
FM Radio
full HD TV capabilities
Slimmer than Nokia N96, Sony C905 or
Accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate of screen
Virtual QWERTY keyboard
Application multitasking

Cons
No Wi-Fi
Heavy on power consumption with only 3 hours talk time froma full charge
No smart dialing

The Samsung M8800 Pixon Silver is definitely a class act.But if there’s one thing missing from the Pixon Silver arsenal with all its incredible features, it has to be the absence of any Wi-Fi connectivity. Perhaps Samsung were worried about competing with it’s own brands such as the Samsung Omnia?

Samsung I900 Omnia Mobile Phone Review

Category : Mobile Phones, Samsung

There is no doubt that the Samsung i900 Omnia has been designed as a potential iPhone killer. The
features and specification are almost identical and it even looks very similar. The Omnia is a touch
screen slide phone packed with latest technologies. With fabulous multi-media capabilities and a 3.2
inch WQVGA TFT LCD screen with 65k colours and 240 x 400 pixel resolution. The amount of technology that has been packed into this slim and sleek design at only 112mm x 56.9mm x 12.5mm and weighing just 125g is incredible. Additionally you can expect up to 6.5 hours talk time and up to a whopping 450 hours of standby on one full charge!

The Omnia features a 5 mega-pixel camera featuring 4x digital zoom, image stabilising, LED flash, auto-focus and shot modes. Recording of video footage is a straightforward affair with the i900 Omnia with recording in MP4 and 3GPP formats and play back of MPEG4, WMV, Xvid, Dvix, H.263 & H.264 formats. The Samsung i900 Omnia is also video call enabled allowing true video conversations with other 3G users.

In terms of entertainment the Omnia mobile phone has a fantastic music system, playing MP3, AMR, AAC, WMA, OGG, and AAC+ music files with a built-in FM stereo radio with RDS and a handy voice recording feature. The Omnia comes with 40 pre-installed tones and supports both MP3 and polyphonic ring-tones. A great feature of the i900 Omnia is the podcasting facility. this allows you to download your favourite radio and internet shows via RSS (Really Simple Syndication) so you can listen to them when convenient and with a huge 8gb of internal memory you should be able to download as many as you like!

As you would expect, the Omnia offers an excellent web browsing experience utilising XHTML, HTML, RSS and WAP 2.0 technologies. With netwrork services such as 3G, HSDPA, WLAN Wi-Fi, GPRS and EDGE, downloading and browsing is fast and reliable. You can connect to other devices using the Bluetooth or USB technologies which are supported. A Quad-band network phone, the Samsung i900 Omnia can be used throughout Europe and America, allowing you to stay in touch with friends, family or the office wherever you may be.

In addition to the email capabilities using POP3/SMTP/IMAP4 services, the i900 Omnia mobile phone comes with the full range of messaging services with SMS, MMS, instant messaging, cell broadcast and push-to-talk. For ease of texting the Omnia also features predictive text input.

Pros
5-megapixel camera
3.2-inch touchscreen
Desktop widgets
DivX/XviD support
A-GPS with Google Maps
8gb of internal memory
WiFi
HSDPA
Looks futuristic and modern
Opera browser

Cons
Uses Windows mobile operating system
Need to use stylus for touch screen

The Samsung i900 Omnia mobile is a fantastic phone with more features than many of us will ever need! A class leader with very few weak points, If Samsung could have offered their own OS with touch screen capability and with multi-tasking, instead of the (relatively) slow Windows mobile system, this phone could have been the one to beat. As it stands, this mobile is still one of the best smartphones around.

Cons
No Wi-Fi

Expensive
No camera flash

The Samsung M7500 Armani Emporio is one of the most stylish mobiles available, if you like making fashion statements then this is probably the only phone for you – read no further! However, take the Armani Emporio logo’s away and you are left with a pretty ordinary mobile phone – as with other designer products you are paying extra for the designer label! There are other mobile phones (without designer labels) for the same price with much higher specification. In terms of performance all the essentials are present and correct except Wi-Fi LAN capability, the only other main criticism is the camera could be better.
